Take me out to the ball game!

Ryan surprised the boys with a trip to the Whitecaps game tonight! They were playing in the midwest championship game, and they won 6-5. It was a great game. Ryan thoroughly enjoyed it, and the boys had some neat things happen. First, we were going to the gate to get our tickets from willcall, and an usher threw the boys a game ball that had been used by the team. So they were bent on getting autographs. Well, Ryan was DYING to meet Tom Brookens and get his autograph. We went to our seats early, and Tom himself (former 3rd baseman from the Detroit Tigers, now manager of the Whitecaps) came over to the fence and autographed the ball. He said, "Mom, take a picture of us," and posed with Cobe. What a highlight for Ryan and Cobe. After the game, he was getting ready to be interviewed for the Fox 10 o'clock news, and he shook Ryan's hand when Ryan said good game. The boys also got free dinners because it was kids' night, so they each got a hot dog, chips, cookies and pop for free (okay, that was more of a highlight for frugal me than them I guess!) Then if you stayed after the game, the kids got to run the bases. So even though it was 9:15, we had to stay and let them run the bases in their new t-shirts that they got at the souvenier shop. All-in-all, it was a perfect night for a ballgame and we had a great time! (Sis got to have fun as well with the Boeves- she got to go to the beach, on a bike ride, to get ice cream, back to their house to play outside and have pizza AND she got to have a sleepover at their house tonight!!!!! We missed her, but she had a great time with the "girls." ) Back tomorrow with Brooks' first day of school (he'll be exhausted b/c they didn't get to bed until 10:00, but you're only a kid once!) :-)

Another player (or coach?) autographing Cobe's ball before the game started.
Ryan and the boys watching the Whitecaps kick some South Bend tail!
The boys had to be begged to pose for this picture and the one with Ryan- neither one were in the "saying cheese" mood tonight. I got a lot of side of the head shots when they realized I was taking a picture of them.
Running the bases after the game. I pleaded with them not to slide into a base or fall because the players all had red mud all over their pants from falling, and I did not want to clean their brand new t-shirts or jeans!
